Public hearing for new landfill for Shillong soon: Dhar
Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar on Friday informed that the state government will soon conduct a public hearing for setting up of a new landfill for Shillong.
“We are yet to complete the process. Public hearing is left (to be conducted),” Dhar said.
Earlier, the government had proposed to set up the new landfill at Nonghali village under Mawryngkneng constituency.
The setting of a new landfill is required after the lifespan of the dumping ground at Marten in Mawlai Mawiong has expired. The 18 acres site at Marten has been in use by the Shillong Municipal Board since 1938.
Asked, the deputy CM said that the government had floated a new expression of interest (EOI) for the new landfill for Jowai town. He informed that land for setting up of the new landfill for Tura has already been acquired.
