Railway issue ends with Govt surrendering fund for land acquisition: Dr Kharlukhi

Former NPP state president and lone Rajya Sabha MP Dr WR Kharlukhi on Tuesday said that issue of railway line has actually ended since the state government has surrendered Rs 200 crore sanctioned by the Centre for the purpose of land acquisition for implementation of the railway projects in the state.
“The state government has returned the money so the subject ends there,” Dr Kharlukhi told reporters while commenting on the government’s decision to constitute an All Party Committee to examine the issue of railway connectivity in the Khasi and Jaintia region of the state.
“Now that they (government) have returned the money from where will they get the money again?” he asked.
According to him, the proposed consultative meeting may be for coming up with the railway projects in the near future.
On the VPP’s decision not to participate in the All party committee on railways, Dr Kharlukhi however said, “What the government needs is a constructive opposition. I don’t know by not being in that consultative committee it is constructive or destructive I don’t know.”
