Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Kharlukhi laid Rs 1.9 crore foundation for Mynthong Community Hall
MP Rajya Sabha Dr. Wanweiroy Kharlukhi laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Community Hall of the Dorbar Shnong Mynthong in Jowai on January 4, 2025.
Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla, MDC Lakhon Dkhar, BDO of Thadlaskeiñ Block Dr. H Niang, Dolloi of Elaka Jowai Puramon Kyniing, and various village leaders and residents were present.
In his speech, Waheh Shnong Mynthong, Lamphrang Pohktai, informed that the idea of the Community Hall dates back to 1993 when it was first initiated with the help of former MLA, Prof. RC. Laloo. However, with the growing population and needs of the village, the Dorbar Shnong decided to pursue the construction of a more substantial hall.
The project is estimated to cost Rs 1.9 crore, with Rs 23 lakh allocated for Phase-1. The funding includes contributions from the MP, MLA, and MDC, as well as some community funds.
MLA Wailadmiki Shylla expressed concern over the challenges faced by Mynthong, particularly during the rainy season. He praised the collective effort of village leaders and expressed hope that the construction would bring lasting benefits. He also urged the community to remain united and focused on development, avoiding political divisions that could harm progress.
Shylla encouraged the village leaders to stay optimistic and begin construction as soon as the funds are secured. He also assured that steps would be taken to ensure the completion of the project.
MP Dr. Wanweiroy Kharlukhi, addressing the gathering, emphasized his commitment to supporting the development of the Jaintia Hills region. He expressed his dedication to helping the Dorbar Shnong achieve their goals and said he would continue working for the betterment of the local communities.
The ceremony was also attended by A. Laloo, former Chairman, Secretary, and Advisor of Mynthong, members of the Music Committee MSYAC, and D. Lathong, Secretary of Dorbar Shnong Mynthong, who delivered the vote of thanks.
