Rakkam appeals to NEHU agitating students to call off protest
Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Tuesday expressed concern about the health conditions of the agitating students of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) after they have been fasting for more than 15 days.
Accordingly, he requested the students to consider calling off their agitation since the Centre had already instituted an inquiry into the prevailing situation in the university.
“I request my dear students, if they could call off their agitation and wait for the recommendation or outcome of (the inquiry) because both their health is important, academics is also important…we cannot compromise at any cost,” Sangma told reporters.
The minister also informed that the chief minister Conrad K Sangma had already taken up the issue with the Centre for necessary intervention and action. He said that the government of India constituted committee will soon come up with its recommendations.
Further, the minister said that he would soon visit the agitating students.
