Rashtriya Poshan Maah concluded in East Jaintia Hills District
The Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2021 organised by the office of the District Programme Officer, ICDS Cell, Poshan Abhiyan, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat in collaboration with various line Departments concluded in Khliehriat on Monday.
As part of the closing ceremony Poshan Mela was held at the campus of Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat.
Minister in-charge of Transport Department, Dasakhiatbha Lamare addressing the gathering as the chief guest lauded the efforts and hardwork of the District officials and field workers of the district in implementing various Government schemes and programmes. He urged the gathering to take the opportunity and avail the schemes implemented by the State and the Central Government which provides numerous benefits for individuals and the overall development of the District.
Lamare reiterated on the need for every citizen to cooperate with various line Departments, Officers and field workers of the district so that every programme and scheme implemented will be successful and benefit the public at large. He further stressed on the importance of cumsuming clean and healthy nutritious food to prevent children from sickness and diseases and other health issues and he urged the parents to take proper care of their children and inculcate in them the importance of a healthy diet for a healthy future.
In his speech as guest of honour, Minister of Social Welfare Department etc, Kyrmen Shylla informed that the Rastriya Poshan Maah (Nutrition month programme) is celebrated across the country with the objective to create awareness about health and nutrition among women and children through the anganwadi workers, anganwadi helpers and ASHA workers.
He further stressed on Covid Vaccination and the importance of getting vaccinated so as to prevent and protect oneself from severe health complications that can arise from contracting the virus. The Minister urged the anganwadi workers, ASHA worker to continue their hardwork in creating more awareness and in encouraging the public to get vaccinated to protect themselves and others from the virus.
Befitting the nature of the programme, Shylla informed that the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Mission is a pilot project that will be implemented soon and said that it aims to educate the parents on how to take care of their child during the developmental stage. While refering to the 1000 days care, he said “It is very important for parents to have a gap of 1000 days between each child in order to be able to take proper care, monitor their children’s mental and physical growth and development”.
During the programme, H Kharbuki, Superintendent of Fisheries, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat briefed the gathering on the input provided to women beneficiaries under the blue revolution after which the inputs were distributed by the Ministers to the women beneficiaries of the District. Other highlights of the programme included distribution of fruits saplings to anganwadi workers, awards for best anganwadi workers and anganwadi helpers of the District were also presented as part of the programme.
Both the ministers along with others officials visited the stalls put up by various departments of the district which included Social Welfare Department, office of the Superintendent of Fisheries, Health Department, AH & Veterinary Department, Office of the District Swachh Bharat Mission and Meghalaya State Rural Livelihood Society among others.
Others who spoke in the function were DM Suja, Addl. Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Dr. R. Toi, M&HO i/c Sutnga CHC, Y Najiar, District Programme Officer, Shiningstar Rymbai, District Co-ordinator, Poshan Abhiyaan, Teibor Kyndiah, District Child Protection Officer, East Jaintia Hills District and C. Pale, Child Development Project Officer, ICDS Khliehriat Project.
