RBI holds financial literacy event at Nongtalang College
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) organised a Field Level Financial Literacy Event (FLFLE) on March 25 at Nongtalang College, West Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya, to promote financial literacy and awareness among the public.
The event was inaugurated by Olden Nongpluh, GM (O-i-C), RBI Shillong, and attended by Amarjit Behera, Regional Manager, SBI; the Principal of Nongtalang College; the DDM of NABARD; Lead District Manager, West Jaintia Hills; along with government officials and bankers from across the state.

In his address, Nongpluh highlighted the importance of financial planning, budgeting, and being prepared for financial emergencies. He stressed the responsible use of digital financial services to avoid scams, fraud, and data misuse.
Amarjit Behera lauded the RBI’s initiative and urged bankers to spread awareness in rural areas about credit facilities, including the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme. He also encouraged students to adopt saving habits early in life.
The District Development Manager and officials from Meghalaya Rural Bank briefed attendees on ongoing developments in financial literacy and digital banking.
RBI officials delivered a detailed presentation covering financial planning, cyber fraud prevention, grievance redressal mechanisms, and recent digital banking tools like UPI, BHIM, and USSD. A quiz was conducted at the end to engage participants.
The Principal of Nongtalang College welcomed the gathering and acknowledged RBI’s continuous efforts in advancing financial inclusion.
