RDA & PDA forms UDA to lead new EC in KHADC
SHILLONG: The UDP-led Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) and NPP-led People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) have formed the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to lead the new executive committee in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
The decision taken at a joint meeting of the RDA and PDA held here on Monday has also decided to appoint UDP MDC from Shella as the chairman of the UDA and NPP MDC from Sohryngkham Pyniaid Sing Syiem as secretary.
The strength of the UDA is 19. This include 9 MDCs from the RDA which comprises of the UDP (7) and Hill State People’s Democratic Party (2) and 10 MDCs from PDA which include NPP (7), PDF (1) and two Independents.
“Both the teams have collectively agreed to form the UDA to lead the new executive committee in the KHADC,” Teinwell Dkhar, who was also nominated for the post of chief executive member (CEM), told reporters after the meeting.
Dkhar further informed that the meeting also resolved to nominate former KHADC chief and NPP parliamentary party leader Pynshngainlang N Syiem for the post of the KHADC Chairman, elections of which will take place after the oath taking ceremony of newly elected MDCs.
Asked, the UDA chairman said that all the 19 members of the alliance are committed to ensure the new EC will last till the end of the five years term.
Meanwhile a notification issued by the Commissioner & Secretary of the District Council Affairs (DCA) Tining Dkhar informed that oath or affirmation by the newly elected members of the KHADC will be held on Wednesday.
This will be followed by the election to the office of the Chairman of the KHADC which will be held on Friday, he said.
“The governor is also pleased to direct that the deputy commissioner of East Khasi Hills District shall preside over both the above mentioned meetings of the KHADC, to administer oath or affirmation to newly elected members under rule 24 and to conduct the election for the office of the chairman of the Council,” Dkhar said.
