Regional Committee of Assam & Meghalaya to visit Khanduli after Independence Day 2023
In bid to resolve the ongoing deadlock between the Karbi community and the Pnar community due to the Entry Tax Gate established by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) in Khanduli, the Chairman of the respective Regional Committee of Assam and Meghalaya will conduct a vist to Khanduli village, West Jaintia Hills District post Independence Day celebration.
This was told by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to reporters at Ialong on Thursday.
Sangma admitted that the Entry Tax Gate is still present in Khanduli but there is no tax collection going on anymore.
The Chief Minister said, “there is some bit of confusion between the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Assam Government and us” with regard to location of the Entry Tax Gate.
The Chairman of the two Regional Committees of both Assam and Meghalaya will be visiting Khanduli to clear the confusion as to bring back peace in Khanduli areas, he also said.
Sangma said initially the Chief Minister of Assam and Meghalaya plans to visit Khanduli but to preoccupation from both sides they could not fix a certain date to visit Khanduli thus they have instead entrusted the Chairman of Regional Committee to visit Khanduli.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister informed that River Myntdu was damaging large portion of lands including paddy fields in Ialong and after the matter was apprised to him, he alloted funds under Chief Minister Special Development Programme for carrying necessary works to protect the lands but there is still lots to be done.
He also said the Government will develop the tourist infrastructure in Ialong including Ialong Park by widening the roads amongst other.
He added that the Government will provide the basic infrastructures to the Seinraij Ialong for organizing Behdienkhlam in a better way.
