Remove non-indigenous students from state quota list: KSU to Govt
The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has expressed strong opposition against the allotment of seats to students belonging to non-indigenous communities, from the state quota at the College of Agriculture.
“What is more surprising is that despite the fact that the names of these students clearly indicated that they are non-tribals, yet they have been included in the Scheduled Caste category,” Chairman of the KSU Education Cell, Raymond Kharjana said in a statement issued on Saturday.
He said that only four indigenous students got admission at the college from the state quota. “The allotment of seats is quite less for indigenous students when compared to people from other communities,” Kharjana said.
He said in view of this, the union has decided to strongly oppose the decision of the state’s Agriculture department and the CAU, which is seen as trampling against the rights of indigenous students.
“At the same, we demanded the department to immediately remove the non-indigenous students from the state quota list,” Kharjana said.
