Reservation policy not applicable to appointment of casual workers in MeECL: James
Minister in-charge Power James K Sangma on Friday said the state’s job reservation policy is not applicable in as far as appointment of contractual employees in the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) is concerned.
He was replying to a query related to the appointment of casual multi-tasking assistants raised by Congress Rangsakona legislator Zenith Sangma in the Assembly.
According to the minister, a total of 128 people have been appointed as multi-tasking assistants by the MeECL in the Khasi, Jaintia and Ri Bhoi districts.
Zenith however demanded that the spirit of the job reservation policy should be applied even for appointment of contractual workers.
On this, James said that it has been the trend in the MeECL that the job reservation policy does not apply for appointment of contractual employees since the contract is only for a period of one year.
When Mawsynram MLA Himalaya Shangpliang wanted to know if such casual employees are not required in Garo Hills, the minister said that the matter is for the MeECLand its admnistration to decide.
