Ri Bhoi DC empowers BDOs to issue birth and death registration orders

In order to simplify the process for registration of birth or death in the rural areas of Ri Bhoi District, the Deputy Commissioner has empowered the Block Development Officer (BDOs) of the four Community & Rural Development Blocks in the district to issue court order for the registration of birth or death in their respective jurisdiction.
According to Abhilash Baranwal, Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner said that the BDOs has been empowered under the provision of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 (Central Act No.18 of 1960) and the Meghalaya Registration of Births and Deaths rules, 1999.
He also informed that the BDO can now take up, hear, pass necessary order and dispose matters of cases relating to registrations of births and deaths as per the provision of the births and Registration Act, 1950 and the state rule made thereof.
“This initiative was taken up as to enable the people to apply for court order in their respective Block headquarters and that they don’t need to come to Nongpoh,” said Baranwal.
