Ri Bhoi District Police foil gold smuggling, two arrested

Ri Bhoi District Police successfully thwarted an attempted gold smuggling on Wednesday.

Acting on intelligence, the police intercepted a Volkswagen car with the registration number AS 01 DT 7519 at the Kyrdeng Police check point, leading to the detention of the vehicle’s occupants, Vinod Kumar Sharma from Jaipur and Lalshyam Sharma from Rajasthan.

During the inspection of the car, police recovered six gold biscuits, each weighing ten tolas, in the possession of Vinod Kumar Sharma. The confiscated gold was estimated to have a value of 35 lahks. Two mobile phones were seized from their possession.

Promptly responding to the incident, the police launched an extensive investigation into the entire gold smuggling operation. Both suspects have been arrested and an investigation is underway.
