Ri Bhoi School taught Bengali, Nepali & Marathi as Meghalaya’s official languages
Almost all the schools in Meghalaya are affiliated to the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) but upto the upper primary level most of the schools are using their own prescribed textbooks from their exclusive publication house(s).
This stunning revelation came to light on Wednesday morning when some netizens viral photographs of few pages of Social Studies of Class III of Little Star Senior Secondary School, 9 Mile, Baridua Ri Bhoi District.
One of pages indicated that the Official Language of Meghalaya are Bengali, Nepali and Marathi instead of Khasi, English and Garo Language.
The text book appeared to be exclusively authored for the said school by Dr. Dhananjay Joshi and Neelam Jain and published by Bright Star Books International. 521-Vasnat Kunj, New Delhi-110070 and approved by NCERT.
Angered by glaring disrespect to the State of Meghalaya, the President of the Khasi Students’ Union, Northern Border Area lodged a complaint against the school with the Officer in-Charge Khanapara Police Station.
The complaint read that said school is using a text book of Social Studies in Class III whereas the content of this book was totally wrong.
The text book indicated that the Official Language of Meghalaya are Bengali, Nepali and Marathi instead of Khasi and Garo Language.
The error will lead to gain of wrong knowledge by the Students of the School.
The KSU said that the text book might have reach other school of other states as well as in the State and this adversely affected the sentiments of Khasi Community.
The KSU called for legal action as per the law against the Author of the Book and the School Authority.
