Rice planting protest gains momentum as KSU’s road revival symbolism
Anger has been brewing due to the failure of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to address demands for the repair of deteriorating stretch along National Highway-6, in East Jaintia Hills District.
On Monday, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) and residents of East Jaintia Hills District planted rice on a muddy road in Khliehriat, the district headquarters, to draw attention to its deteriorated condition. This action has gained momentum as KSU’s road revival symbolic.
It may be mentioned, despite numerous pleas to the NHAI and the Government of Meghalaya for its restoration, their requests have fallen on deaf ears.
