    JOWAI: The World Blood Donor Day was observed in the District today at Jowai Civil Hospital Blood Bank, Panaliar, organised by Jowai Civil Hospital Blood Bank in collaboration with Meghalaya Aids Control Society, Shillong and Meghalaya State Blood Transfusion Council, Shillong in the conference on the Theme “Save Blood for All.” Additional Deputy Commissioner B.J Kharshandi, MCS was the Chief Guest.

    Speaking on the occasion B.J Kharshandi, express his gratitude for being part of this important day and considered it as a great honour.  He thanked all the voluntary Blood donors for their life saving gift of blood, to those in need of blood transfusion. He said, the unseen noble act and the contribution made by the donor add joy and doubles the happiness of the receivers. He further exhorted especially the young citizens fit and healthy to voluntarily come forward donate blood and save life.

    Dr. Rita Pohrmen, Superintendent of Jowai Civil Hospital Ialong, in her introductory speech thanked the organizations and the regular Voluntary Blood Donors for generously donating blood to save and support life especially in their critical times. She also highlighted on the importance of Blood Donation.

    Special appreciation was given to Ricky Dan for his voluntary Blood donation.  In a span of four years he had voluntarily donated his blood 11 times, an example set for others.

    As a mark of gratitude for the act of generosity mementos and certificates of appreciation were given to Kiang Nangbah Government College, Thomas Jones Synod College, Jowai, North East Adventist College, Khliehtyshi, Seng Samla Catholic, Jowai Parish, Jingiaseng Samla Presbyterian Balang Jowai, Seven day Thadlaboh, Jowai, Dalmai Bharat Cement Plant, Thangskai, East Jaintia Hills, Jaintia Eastern College, Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills District, HDFC Bank Jowai, North East Adventist Church, Khliehtyshi.

    The Jowai Blood Bank had also conducted Quiz and Drawing Competition for the Students and the winners were awarded certificates

    Superintendent of Dr. Norman Tunnel Hospital Dr.N.Nongpluh Doctors from the Dr. Norman Tunnel Hospital, Doctors and staffs of Blood Bank and others were present.

    The Programme was chaired Dr. P. Shylla, incharge of Jowai Blood Bank and the vote of thanks by Dalangki Dkhar, Lab Technician, Jowai Blood Bank.
