Rise in two wheeler thefts in West Jaintia Hills prompts police to caution people
The Meghalaya Police has cautioned the people of West Jaintia Hills District to be extra vigil and report any suspicious character loitering around their localities in view of the sudden surge of two wheelers thieves in the district.
Police said that there have been frequent reports of two wheeler theft in the district during the past few days.
Police informed they are trying their best to deter these criminal activities where patrolling and special operations were conducted and it has led to the recovery of some stolen bikes.
Amid this situation, an FIR was lodged by a resident, Deiwaiarapmi Tang of Mookyrdup, Jowai. He reported the theft of his bike, a KTM RC 125 bearing Registration No. ML05W0818, stolen between 10:30 PM on January 2, 2025, and 1:00 AM on January 3, 2025.
The police appealed to all the two wheeler owners to park their bikes in a safe and secure location and also to adopt other preventive methods for safety.
Police said the general public are encouraged to pass timely information to the nearest police station or to the Police Control Room (9774065467) if they notice any suspicious movement in the locality or notice any two wheeler moving suspiciously.
