Roads & bridges to the tune of Rs 200 cr damaged by rain in Meghalaya
Roads and bridges to the tune of nearly Rs 200 crore have been damaged in the state due to the recent landslides and floods caused by heavy rainfall.
Informing this on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong said, “We have estimated not less than Rs 165 crore damages (caused to roads and bridges in the state).
Tynsong informed that his department has already submitted all the details and documents to the revenue department.
“Of course we have submitted all the details inch by inch to the revenue department for Garo Hills, Khasi Hills, Jaintia Hills and Ri Bhoi districts,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) arrived in the state capital on Tuesday.
“The IMCT will be visiting the flood-affected areas of Meghalaya to assess the damages tomorrow and day after tomorrow,” Tynsong informed.
The IMCT has been deputed by the central government.
The Union Home Minister Amit Shah had informed that he had spoken to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma to discuss the situation in parts of both states in the wake of heavy rainfall & flooding.
“Modi government stands firmly with the people of Assam and Meghalaya in this hour of need,” he had said.
Over 19 people were killed due to floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in Khasi-Jaintia and Garo Hills region of the state on June 16 and 17.
