Rs 16.92 lakh disbursed to support hailstorm-affected families in West Jaintia Hills
The Deputy Commissioner’s Office, West Jaintia Hills, disbursed Rs 16.92 lakh in relief funds to support 113 households and farmers affected by the hailstorm on November 5, 2024. A programme was held in the DC conference room on December 19 to inform beneficiaries about the relief process.
Local MLA and MUDA Chairman Wailadmiki Shylla, Additional Deputy Commissioner HML Kynta, and Block Development Officers Dr. Heimonmi Niang (Thadlaskein) and P. Passah (Namdong) attended the programme.
Wailadmiki Shylla assured affected families of the government’s commitment to addressing their needs. He highlighted that Rs 4,000 per household, amounting to Rs 4,52,000, has been allocated to 113 households in five affected villages—Iongnoh, Pynthorlangtein, Muphlang, Mustem, and Madan Tyrpait. These funds will be transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts by January 2025.
Shylla also announced Rs 8,500 per hectare in financial assistance for farmers whose crops were damaged. This additional relief, totaling Rs 12,40,150, will be disbursed based on land size following government approval and further processing.
ADC HML Kynta detailed the extensive damage to crops and homes, emphasizing the government’s efforts to ensure a fair and transparent allocation of funds. The Agriculture Department conducted a thorough survey to assess the impact on farmers, and the distribution process is underway with verification to ensure accuracy.
Block Development Officers P. Passah and Dr. Heimonmi Niang urged beneficiaries to update their bank details promptly to avoid delays in receiving the funds.
