Rymbui takes up with NCTE on delay to start B.Ed College in Jowai

The state government has recently taken up with the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) on the delay to start the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) College in Jowai, West Jaintia Hills District.

Speaking to media persons on Thursday, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said he along with the Additional Chief Secretary in-charge Education had met the secretary of NCTE to discuss with regards to the B.Ed College in Jowai, which is a long pending issue.

He said the NCTE has not allowed the state government to start the college, inspite of having the space and appointment of faculty members.

“Since they said that standalone colleges will not be allowed anymore and that only integrated colleges will be allowed to offer B.Ed courses, we have subsumed that B.Ed college with the Kiang Nangbah Government College (KNGC), Jowai,” he said.

The minister also informed that in December last year, the government of India had agreed in principle that KNGC, Jowai will be one of the model colleges to offer a 4-year integrated degree adding “But again in March, they again changed the policy.”

Asked, Rymbui said that the secretary of the NCTE informed the state delegation that anytime during the coming weeks, they will again open the online application for new colleges to apply.

“We had a good meeting and we know what we need to do. The NCTE secretary had also informed us that curriculum and everything has been prepared and that they will take a decision to open their portal for any college to apply, which we are ever ready to apply,” he added.

According to him, the B.Ed College has been pending due to the frequent change in the rules and the regulations and also with the coming of the National Education Policy.
