SAFF snubs KSP for alleging act of religious intolerance behind Mawkynrew clash
Prominent members of the Shillong All Faiths Forum (SAFF) are affronted by the claim of the Assam based Kutumba Surakshya Parishad (KSP) that the recent clash in Mawkynrew Village is an “act of religious intolerance”.
“The SAFF snubbed this organisation which appears to further provoke the Mawkynrew issue to escalate into a friction on divisive and fundamentalist aspects of religion which are very negative. This is the same organisation which recently threatened our people with a road blockade on another issue related to tourism in our State,” SAFF vice president Noor Nongrum said in a statement.
Nongrum said from media reports it is seen that the crowd engaged in the incidents at Mawkynrew are not identified by their religious affiliations and it is very wrong for the KSP to cast aspersion and accuse the Christian community in this manner.
The SAFF also appealed to the people and the local leaders in the Mawkynrew area to work with the relevant authorities in settling this issue amicably and see that peace and harmony is maintained.
