Samaritan acts by Congress leaders for families in need

At the beginning of this year and up to this month, there had been a couple of unrelated house fires in both Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills. Several groups and organisations have shown their concerns through donations and charitable actions.

Similarly, a few Congress Committees like Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC), Mawshynrut Assembly Youth Congress (MAYC), Khliehriat Block Congress Committee (KBCC) and East Jaintia Hills District Mahila Congress Committee (EJHDMCC) have provided assistance to the troubled families, respectively.

West Khasi Hills:

The house of a family of 4 in Nongaswit village under Mawshynrut Block West Khasi Hills was set ablaze at around 12:10 pm. They were fortunate enough to avoid any casualties but they lost all their belongings to the fire, on March 5.

The members of Youth Congress, General Secretary of MPYC- Fernandez Savie Dkhar and President of MAYC- Raymond E Lyngkhoi along with General Secretary of Mylliem AYC- Banphira Basaiawmoit visited the village to aid the family by donated CGI Sheets, rice, utensils and blankets on March 11.

East Jaintia Hills:

In the midst of cold January this year, two households were caught up in a fire that had transformed the lives of two mothers to face hardship and despair in Molamanoh, East Jaintia Hills District.

To support the two households with donations were the members of Congress committees like President of KBCC- Deibormi Syad, Vice President of KBCC- Ma Pheinlang Siangshai, President of EJHDMCC- Jhanika Siangshai, Vice President of EJHDMCC- Shimika Sungoh and other members.
