SCSTE’s commitment to fostering scientific mindsets and sustainable growth in rural Meghalaya
The State Council of Science, Technology, and Environment, Meghalaya (SCSTE) successfully concluded its State-Level Eco Club Competition from November 7-9, 2024. The competition saw the participation of 31 schools and over 180 students from rural areas. The event included an OMR-based written exam, a tinkering science project, and a scavenger hunt in Nongkrem.
The top-performing Eco Clubs are set to receive awards, which include educational resources such as school libraries, tinkering labs, hydroponic units, rainwater harvesting systems, clean drinking water facilities, and more. This initiative reflects SCSTE’s unwavering commitment to fostering a scientific mindset and promoting sustainable growth within Meghalaya’s rural communities.
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates and a special address by Shri W. Passah, a retired professor from St. Edmund’s College, Shillong. Through this program, SCSTE aims to cultivate a new generation of students equipped with scientific knowledge, environmental awareness, and the skills required for sustainable development.
By engaging rural students in innovative and practical science activities, SCSTE inspires young minds to think critically about environmental conservation and the significance of science and technology in daily life. This initiative highlights SCSTE’s dedication to building an informed, innovative, and environmentally conscious future for Meghalaya.
