Section 144 CrPC enforced to prevent Rohingyas from sneaking into India
The District Magistrate, East Jaintia Hills District Khliehriat has promulgated Section 144 CrPC in the international boundary of India Bangladesh along East Jaintia Hills District.
The prohibitory order was promulgated after BSF informed the District Magistrate East Jaintia District the AOR of 172Bn is highly prone to smuggling of cattle/ contraband goods and other items such as betel nut, dry fish, biri, cigarettes, chai/patti etc from India to Bangladesh and vice versa.
The BSF also reported that the smuggler and other anti National elements would gather in large numbers near the International Border during the night hours to smuggle the said goods from India to Bangladesh and vice versa.
The BSF also informed that members of various terrorist outfits and Rohingyas may also try to sneak into Indian Territory during night hours which may adversely affect the security of the State.

The recent brutal murder of Umkiang resident by the Bangladeshi nationals by trespassing into the Indian border was also ground for the imposition of the Section 144 CrPC.
The prohibitory order ban the movement of people at the International Border with the intention to cross the International boundary in Bangladesh or sneaks in the Indian Territory.
The order prohibited the illegal, undesirable activities smuggling of cattle/ contraband goods and other items such as betel nut, dry fish, biri, cigarettes, chai/patti etc.
The District Magistrate prohibited the movement of person on foot or vehicles/ carriage in public under 5Kms of the border belt from 6 PM to 5 AM.
