Section 144 CrPC imposed to safeguard aquatic life in West Khasi Hills

West Khasi Hills District Magistrate, Garod L.S.N. Dykes, IAS prohibited any person organization, clan or group of people, etc, indulging or resorting to poisoning/destroying the rivers, fishes and aquatic life in river and steam of the rivers of Wahblei and Khusang under Mawwhynrut Block, West Khasi Hills District.

The prohibitory order issued under Section 144 CrPC informed it has been reported that some unscrupulous persons/groups of persons are in the habit of catching fishes in the streams and rivers of Wahblei and Khusang under Mawwhynrut Block by mean of using poisonous substances chemical and explosive blasting.

Such practice has badly affected maritime life, the safety of water and ecological balance in the rivers and streams, the order said.
