Section 163 BNSS imposed in Wapungskur and Bataw following vandalism of four EVMs during JHADC polling
In order to prevent any further breakdown of law-and-order situation in Bataw village and Wapungskur village following vandalism of two Electronic Voting Machine (EVMs) during polling to the JHADC Election on February 21, the East Jaintia Hills District Magistrate has promulgated Section 163 BNSS in the two said villages with immediate effect and until further order.
The order was necessitated to contain any threat to public peace and tranquillity, with the potential to escalate into violence, endangering lives and property.
The order prohibited the assembly of more than five persons in and around Wapungskur and Bataw Village except at the Polling Station for voting purpose only while carrying of arms or lethal weapons in and around Wapungskur and Bataw Village, except by security forces is also banned in the two said villages.
The order prohibited any act by individuals or groups that obstructs the free movement of people and also banned any act by individuals or groups that disturbs public order and general peace.
