Section 163 BNSS promulgated at Presbyterian Church in East Khasi Hills

The East Khasi Hills District Magistrate has issued prohibitory order under Section 163 BNSS prohibiting any gathering in Presbyterian Church, Ksehpyndeng under Mawrynkneng PS.

The order was promulgated due to an ongoing dispute between two factions of the said Presbyterian Church where a newly established faction intends to re-baptize the older local residents on the upcoming Sunday while another faction vehemently opposed such practices.

The order said “if this move is allowed may escalate tensions and result in a serious breach
of law and order.”

The order prohibits any gathering at the disputed site and also warned any violation shall be prosecuted under Section 223 of the BNS.
