Seizures worth Rs 168 crore made in Assam prior to 1st phase LS polls
Over Rs 168 crore worth of cash, liquor, drugs and other goods have been seized by various agencies in the run-up to the first phase of Lok Sabha polls in Assam, officials of Assam CEO office said on Thursday.
Total cash seized from March 1 to April 18 stood at Rs 15.3 crore across the state, the officials said.
Various agencies recovered nearly 6.97 lakh litres of liquor, valued at more than Rs 21,75 crore, they said.
The officials said drugs worth Rs 102.8 crore were also seized during the period under review.
Besides, Rs 28.1 crore worth of precious metals were recovered by various state as well as central agencies, the officials also said.
During this period, 26 weapons and 72 cartridges and explosives were seized by police and other security agencies. A total of 18,2020 licensed arms were seized and 14921 licensed arms have been deposited to the authorities, the officials further said.
Of 1873 non-bailable warrants received by the authorities, 982 have been executed till 6 am on Thursday, they said.
Meanwhile, an official release from Kamrup Metro district administration stated that the sleuths of the excise department have seized 2910 litres of country liquor, 15,500 kg of fermented wash, and 22 litres of IMFL in various raids conducted in Guwahati in the run-up to the elections.
A total of 11 persons have been arrested for violation of the Model Code of Conduct for the General Elections till Thursday morning, the release added.
