Seizures worth Rs 175.9 crore made in Assam prior to 2nd phase LS polls
Over Rs 175.9 crore worth of cash, liquor, drugs and other goods have been seized by various state and central agencies in the run-up to the second phase of Lok Sabha polls in Assam, Assam chief electoral officer (CEO) Anurag Goel said here on Thursday.
Total cash seized from March 1 to April 25 stood at Rs 16.6 crore across the state, Goel said.
Various agencies recovered nearly 8.26 lakh litres of liquor, valued at more than Rs 25.5 crore, he said.
The CEO said drugs worth Rs 105.5 crore were also seized during the period under review.
Besides, Rs 28.1 crore worth of precious metals were recovered by various state as well as central agencies, the CEO also said.
During this period, 29 weapons and 72 cartridges and explosives were seized by police and other security agencies. A total of 18,202 licensed arms were seized and 15207 licensed arms have been deposited to the authorities, the CEO further said.
Of 2121 non-bailable warrants received by the authorities, 1061 have been executed till 6 am on Thursday, he said.
Goel informed that a total of 10 poll-related cases have taken place across the state in the run-up to the second phase of elections.
The CEO’s office received 141 cases of violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), of which 136 cases have been resolved and five cases are pending for disposal.
Meanwhile, an official release from Kamrup Metro district administration stated that the sleuths of the police and excise department have seized 1598 litres of country liquor, 15,460 kg of fermented wash, and 69 litres of IMFL in various raids conducted in Guwahati in the run-up to the elections.
A total of 9 persons have been arrested for violation of the Model Code of Conduct for the General Elections till Thursday morning, the release added.
