Seng Khasi seeks action against illegal encroachment of Krem Mawjymbuin

The Seng Khasi Hima Mawsynram has sought the intervention of the Director General of Police (DGP) for taking action against those involved in illegal trespassing and encroachment of a religious land at Krem Mawjymbuin.

In an additional FIR, President of the Seng Khasi Tyllilang Myrthong said, “We humbly request your good office please do the needful to book and arrest the anti-social element as the law for thus who involved for illegal trespass, destruction, encroachment, destroyed and insulted the sanctity of our religious land and religious belief of Khasi Indigenous faith (Niam Khasi) at Krem Mawjymbuin.”

Myrthong informed that he had lodged an FIR before the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District on March 19, 2022 against the encroachers on the registered land duly signed by the Syiem of Mawsynram and Secretary Seng Khasi Hima Mawsynram.

He however said that the police personnel have failed to take necessary action even though the SI of Mawsynram police station had seized the land documents on March 25, 2022 at Mawlai police station in the presence of the witnesses.

Myrthong further informed that on May 27, 2022 around 1.33 pm, he had received one RTI report furnished by D Syiem, Assistant Director of Tourism & Public Information Officer, Directorate of Tourism.

He said that the RTI filed by Disparsing Rani clearly showed that the office of the Directorate of Tourism was trying to tamper the evidence by informing that the department “had no request from cultural secretary Seng Khasi Hima Mawsynram to cancel the Tender dated: 28/10/2020 inspite of the fact that the cultural secretary Seng Khasi Hima Mawsynram have lodged a complaint on 03/07/2019 to cancel the previous notice inviting tender (NIT) dated 29/05/2019 on the same place.”

“We are shock and surprisingly after our organization had been filed the complaint to the Director, Tourism Department for to cancellation their NIT at our religious land of the Niam Khasi whch registered as per the law,” he said.

“As per point number 6 of RTI report clearly informed that the Tourism Department had received the FIR lodged by Seng Khasi Hima Mawsynram, but it was very shocked to see in reply to point number 7 that the work is going on up to 70% by the contractor Forward Mawlong,” he added.

Earlier, the president of the Seng Khasi had also filed an FIR on October 18, 2019 against Bording Marbaniang who is the Acting Chief, Hima Mawsynram for threatening his brother Batistalang Myrthong (cultural secretary, Seng Khasi Hima Mawsynram) vide letter dated 12^th October, 2019 directing him to be present on 20^th October, 2019 at the office of Hima Mawsynram without any authority granted under law for such summon, failing which he has further threatened to take strict action. He however said no action has been taken by the police on the matter.
