Senior BPF leader Kampa Borgoyari quits party, likely to join UPPL
Senior Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) leader and former Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) deputy chief Kampa Borgoyari has resigned from the party, ending his two-decade-long association with former BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary. Borgoyari, who served as BPF vice president, submitted his resignation letter to party supremo Hagrama Mohilary on Sunday, stepping away from both his leadership position and primary membership.
Sources suggest that Borgoyari is set to join the Pramod Boro-led United People’s Party Liberation (UPPL), signaling a crucial shift in Bodoland politics.
In 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Borgoyari contested from Kokrajhar (ST) seat but lost to UPPL’s Joyanta Basumatary. Since then, he has maintained a cordial relationship with UPPL’s top leadership, and his exit from BPF is seen as a strategic move paving the way for his formal induction into UPPL.
In his resignation letter, Borgoyari said, “I do hereby tender my resignation from the vice presidency as well as the primary membership of the BPF due to my personal inabilities to participate in party activities.”
Reflecting on his 20-year journey with BPF, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the people, adding, “I hope that under your capable leadership, the party will continue to grow and fulfill the aspirations of the people.”
Later, in a social media post, Borgoyari described his departure as a deeply personal decision, calling his time in BPF “an incredible journey filled with memories and valuable experiences.” He thanked Hagrama Mohilary, party leaders, and supporters for their trust and support over the years.
While parting ways with BPF, he reaffirmed his commitment to public service, saying, “This resignation does not alter my dedication to the people and the values I believe in. I will continue to work towards progress in meaningful ways.”
With Borgoyari’s anticipated switch to UPPL, his departure is expected to reshape BTC’s political landscape, particularly as the region gears up for upcoming elections. His transition marks a significant shift in Bodoland politics, highlighting the ongoing realignments within the BTC’s power structure.
