Set up AC in KHADC: Opp demanded

Opposition in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has demanded the setting up of an assurance committee (AC) to ensure compliance of the various departments on the assurances made inside the House.

Supporting a motion moved by leader of opposition L Blah during the budget session on Monday, Congress MDC from Mylliem, Ronnie V Lyngdoh said that there is need to set up an assurance committee as was done in the state Assembly.

He also suggested that the committee should consist of members of the House to look into the compliance of the different departments on the assurances made by the executive committee inside the House.

“This would help improve the functioning of the council by making it more accountable,” Lyngdoh said.

In his reply, KHADC Chief Executive Member, Titostarwell Chyne informed that the executive committee had already written to the Chairman of the KHADC, Pyniaid Sing Syiem on the need to constitute the assurance committee and petition committee.

“We are still waiting for the response of the chairman on this regard,” he said.
