Seven cases being reviewed for detention under PITNDPS Act: Paul Lyngdoh
Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Friday informed that a total of seven cases are being reviewed for detention under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (PITNDPS) Act, 1988.
Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said, “There are seven cases that are currently being reviewed. We want to ensure that the system is done in such a way that we do our homework very meticulously so that none of those cases fall through because of lack of evidence and so on and so forth.”
Referring to the arrest of a 50-year-old Aisa Khatoon, a notorious drug kingpin from Lower Paltan Bazar, Lyngdoh said, “The success and the way in which this woman – I will not call a lady, I think she doesn’t deserve to be call one – who has been engaged in trafficking in many years and has been involved in as many as 4 cases, was finally nabbed, it’s not inspite of, but it is because of the effort of this government that she is now under custody and all efforts are being made to ensure that she also is booked under the preventive and detention, which is provided by PIT NDPS.”
Asked, the minister said, “In fact after our recent meeting the Dorbar of West Shillong have submitted their suggestions to us, we are incorporating those suggestions and you will see by the end of this year, the emergence of more VDP within Shillong city itself.”
