Shella by-poll likely in Dec
SHILLONG: The bye-election to the Shella Assembly seat is likely to be held in December, this year, deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong said here on Monday.
In view of this, he said the National People’s Party (NPP) is yet to decide on whether to field candidate for the seat. “There is still time because the bye-election will tentatively be held in the month of December,” he said.
The seat fell vacant after the death of former Assembly Speaker and former president of the United Democratic Party (UDP) late Dr Donkupar Roy last month.
The UDP, which decided to field late Dr Donkupar’s son Balajied Kupar Synrem for retaining the Shella seat, has also appealed to all MDA partners to support his candidature.
