Shillong Bar Association fire incident: Meghalaya CM visits site

A massive fire broke out at the Shillong Bar Association located behind the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) East Khasi Hills District on Saturday night.
The incident took place at around 10.30pm.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma also rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
He was accompanied by the Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar, Chief Secretary DP Wahlang, DC RM Kurbah and officials from the district administration and police.
Speaking to reporters, Conrad K Sangma said, “We are yet to determine the exact reason but it seems that it is the electrical conditions that led to the fire out here in the judiciary area mostly the Bar Association is here.
“It is a very unfortunate incident but we are very relieved that there is no lost of life and no casualty,” he said.

The CM however said, “Of course the fact that the infrastructure is damaged and the fact that there could be lost of documents and all is obviously a concern but we are doing our best that we minimise the damage.”
The CM also thanked the fire department for handling the situation.

“We are monitoring the situation and we want to make sure there is no further damage,” he added.
