Shillong Engineering College to start from next academic year

The much-awaited Shillong Engineering College (SEC) is all set to open from the next academic year.
Informing this, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) had already inspect the college, which have applied for affiliation.
“We are doing all the things which need to be done to start the college. The process of sanctioning of posts is on. We have also started the process of applying to the regulatory authority,” Rymbui added.
When asked, the education minister said, “I hope if everything is as per my plan of thing next academic year we could start the Shillong Engineering College.”
On the other hand, Rymbui also said that efforts are on to start the Captain Williamson Sangma Technical University in Tura.
“…we have passed the Captain Williamson Sangma Technical University Act since 2011 but till date nothing is happening,” he said while informing that the first board meeting of the university will be held on January 14, next year to see that this university also could become operationalize for the benefit of the people of the state.
He further informed that the Captain Williamson Sangma Technical University is 70 percent completed.
“Now we are trying to get a sanction for the approach road and other services to the campus of the university in Tura,” Rymbui said.
He also assured, “I will try to first implement the Captain Williamson Sangma Technical University and after that we will see what is to be done in the next phase.”
Apart from this, the education minister said the government is also trying to start the College of Planning and Architecture in Tura and the college at Patharkhmah and Rongjeng.
“We also have the Science College at Mawphlang which we also try to do as much as possible for the people of the state so that the accessibility and availability of seats could be ensured within the state of Meghalaya,” he added.
