Shillong Lajong came out triumphantly against the Defending Champion: I-League

SHILLONG: Shillong Lajong defeated I-League defending champions, Minerva Punjab FC, 1-0 today at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Chandigarh.

Lajong youngsters started the game brightly against the Champion and the first chance came in the 7^th min through Samuel Lalmuanpuia but it went wide. Their perseverance and their counter attacking style of play paid off in the 84^th min when Mahesh Singh scored from close range after a rebound from the keeper Nidhin lal fell on the striker.

Kitbok Pale from Ialong Jaiñtia Hills could have doubled the lead when he was on a one on one situation but his shot was saved by the onrushing Minerva keeper Nidin Lal.

The champion did created a lot of chances but they were put-off by the man of the match Lajong keeper Phurba Lachenpa especially the beautiful tipped over the crossbar from Prabhot’s header and also in the 64^th min Phurba made a brilliant save to deny Moinuddin. Minerva tried all options to salvage a point but were unsuccessful.

After this win, Shillong Lajong will return home to take on Churchill Brothers on 5th of February at the JN Stadium Shillong.
