Shillong Lajong emerged victorious against Churchill Brothers: Hero I-League
SHILLONG: Shillong Lajong emerged victorious at their home turf against Churchill Brothers in the Hero I-League with a 3-2 score line. The match was held at the JN Stadium in Shillong.
Samuel Kynshi of Lajong opened the scoring in the 36th minute and double the team’s lead in the 45th minute from the penalty spot while Willis Plaza of Churchill Brothers scored in the 53rd minute and then Anthony Wolfe scored in the 70th minute to equalize.
Mahesh Singh Naorem scored the winner in the 83rd minute for the Reds. With the goals tonight, Samuel Kynshi and Mahesh Naorem Singh now join Phrangki Buam with 4 goals to their names.
Coach Allison made three changes in today’s match with Novin Gurung, Rakesh Pradhan and Naorem Mahesh Singh in the starting XI. The young Reds started brightly and in the 36th minute Lajong netting their first goal through Samuel Kynshi with an assist from Mahesh Singh Naorem. Before the end of the first Half Samuel Kynshi scored the second goal through a penalty spot leaving the score line 2-0.
In the 2nd half Churchill Brothers were a dominant side looking more likely to equalize. It was in the 53rd min the visitor’s netting the goal through Wills Plaza with an assist from Nicholas Fernandes. Nicholas Fernandes came out with another assist for Anthony Wolfe’s goal in the 70th min making it 2-2. But in the 83rd min Mahesh Singh Naorem with a brilliant shot from outside the box into the net to give the Reds a 3-2 victory.
Shillong Lajong will now travel to Kolkata to face Quess East Bengal on February 14th.
