Shillong Premier League 2024 start on October 16, prize money doubled

The Shillong Premier League 2024 will kick off on October 16 with the first of 90 matches in an expanded top tier of the Shillong Sports Association (SSA) football pyramid.

This year’s 10 participating teams include defending champions Mawlai SC, 2023 runners-up Rangdajied United FC, semifinalists Shillong Lajong FC and Langsning FC, along with Ryntih FC, Sawmer SC, Nongthymmai SC, Nangkiew Irat SC, and two teams promoted from the 2023 First Division – Nongrim Hills SC and Laitkor SC.

OC Blue returns as the title sponsor this season, and SSA President Banteidor Lyngdoh announced that the prize money will be doubled this year, with the champions set to receive Rs 6 lakh and the runners-up Rs 3 lakh. All clubs will continue to receive a share of the ticket revenue.

In an exciting development, the SSA plans to host several matches under floodlights at the SSA Stadium, First Ground, aiming to elevate the fan experience.

Anticipation is building for a fiercely competitive season in Meghalaya, a state renowned for its passion for football. The coveted trophy was unveiled today in the presence of the 10 team captains.
