Shillong Premier League: Deibormame Tongper shines with hat-trick as Lajong defeats Nongthymmai 6-3

In an action-packed match in the Shillong Premier League 2023, Shillong Lajong FC showcased their prowess, securing a thrilling 6-3 win over Nongthymmai SC at the SSA Stadium on Tuesday.

Deibormame Tongper, showcasing his talent, scored a hat-trick (26’, 42’, 60’), while Babysunday Marngar netted twice (51’, 90’+2) and substitute Shano Tariang scored once (61’).

Initially, Nongthymmai took the lead with goals from Robi Hansda (11’) and Nitesh Hazra (19’). Though Lajong equalized before halftime, Nongthymmai briefly regained the lead again via Samborlang Nongbsap (46’). However, Lajong’s relentless attack secured them the win.

With this victory, Shillong Lajong FC reclaimed the top spot in the standings. Despite being tied on points with Rangdajied United FC on 9 points each after three games and sharing the same goal difference (+6), Lajong’s superior goal-scoring puts them in provisional first place. Meanwhile, Nongthymmai remains in the bottom half of the table with three points from four match.

Deibormame, now the league’s top scorer with six goals, showcased his talent early in the game. Despite Lajong’s defensive weaknesses, their offensive strength sealed the win.

This exciting match marked the second time in four games that nine goals were scored. The last saw Mawlai SC drub Sawmer SC 7-2 and Sawmer will be back in action on Wednesday as they take on Langsning FC at 3pm.
