Shillong Premier League: Khrawkupar’s hat-trick helps Mawlai SC beat Ryntih FC 4-1; Lajong FC secures back-to-back wins

In a thrilling local derby on Thursday, Khrawkupar Jana bagged a hat-trick to help Mawlai SC beat Ryntih FC 4-1 in the OC Blue Shillong Premier League 2024 at the SSA Stadium in Polo.

Khrawkupar, who previously netted a brace in Mawlai’s opening match, continued his impressive form by scoring in the 48th, 51st, and 80th minutes, placing him well ahead in the race for the Golden Boot. Donlad Diengdoh added to the scoreline with a header in the 89th minute, while Ryntih’s Allen L Nongbri managed to convert a penalty in the 87th minute.

The first half ended in a stalemate despite some exciting moments, including a remarkable save from Ryntih goalkeeper Frolicson Dkhar and a powerful shot from Mawlai’s Kevin Rymbai that rattled the crossbar. After halftime, Mawlai intensified their efforts, leaving Ryntih struggling to keep up.

Khrawkupar headed in his first goal off a corner but it is his left foot that is his biggest weapon and he unleashed it twice for two brilliant goals. The first saw him squeeze it through the legs of Allen L Nongbri and past the goalie from the edge of the box. The second came after the ball was in the Ryntih box and there was an all-out melee with no one able to clear the ball or score. Donlad cleverly back-heeled the ball to the man of the moment and Khraw scored his hat-trick goal. 

In earlier action, Shillong Lajong FC secured back-to-back wins with a 2-1 result against Rangdajied United FC. Samchaphrang Lato opened the scoring in the 26th minute, converting from a corner after the ball bobbled around in the box. Rangdajied equalized in the 54th minute when Benny V Khriam scored, assisted by substitute Owanijuh Pajuh’s precise cutback.

As the match neared its conclusion, it seemed a draw was imminent, but Emanbha Marbaniang, just a minute after being subbed in, headed in a corner from Yohaan Benjamin to restore Lajong’s lead, which they maintained until the final whistle.

The next match in the OC Blue SPL 2024 will see Laitkor SC face off against Sawmer SC on 28 October at 5:30 PM.
