Shillong Premier League: Nongrim Hills and Sawmer end in 1-1 draw
The OC Blue Shillong Premier League 2024 witnessed its first draw on Saturday night, as Nongrim Hills SC and Sawmer SC battled to a thrilling 1-1 draw at the SSA Stadium in Polo.
Sawmer struck first with a goal from Diego Khyriem in the 4th minute. Nongrim Hills equalized in the 74th minute when a long ball from Rickyson Makdoh slipped through the hands of Sawmer’s goalkeeper, Pyrshangbanbha Dkhar, spilling over the line.
The first half was action-packed, with Diego scoring after a corner kick led to a ball that rebounded off the goalkeeper’s gloves and the crossbar, allowing him to tap in easily.
Nongrim’s goalie, Urbanity Makhroh, was called into action multiple times, notably in the 35th minute, where he made two crucial saves – first denying a header from Diego following a free kick and then stopping a close range shot from Shanmeiaki Warlarpih.
As the first half neared its end, Nongrim created a couple of promising chances, including a cheeky back-heel attempt from Bankyrshan Ryndong that was blocked and a header from Babshemphang Kurbah that was easily caught by Pyrshangbanbha.
The second half continued the drama, with Urbanity making a double save early on. A moment of confusion almost resulted in an own goal when a defender’s header back to the goalkeeper was miscommunicated. However, Urbanity redeemed himself later with a fantastic diving save to deny Sawmer’s Mebanjop Warjri in the 82nd minute.
The next matches in the OC Blue SPL 2024 will be held on October 23, featuring Nangkiew Irat SC against Laitkor SC at 2:30 PM, followed by Langsning FC taking on Nongthymmai SC at 5:30 PM.
