Shillong Premier League: Rangdajied United FC extend unbeaten streak with 3-0 win over Langsning FC
Rangdajied United FC continued their impressive run in the OC Blue Shillong Premier League 2024 with a commanding 3-0 win over Langsning FC at the SSA Stadium, First Ground, Polo, on Friday.
Goals from Owanijuh Pajuh (19’, 56’) and Aenam Jyrwa (62’) extended Rangdajied’s unbeaten streak to seven games. They have managed to keep clean sheets in each of these matches, finishing the first leg with six wins, one draw, and two defeats, totaling 19 points.
This performance is a stark contrast to the start of the season when Rangdajied lost their opening two fixtures to the only clubs above them in the table—leaders Mawlai SC and second-placed Shillong Lajong FC. Langsning, on the other hand, find themselves just above the relegation zone with 7 points. Their first-leg campaign saw them win only twice, draw once, and lose six times. They have a worse goal difference compared to ninth-placed Nongthymmai SC (-10 to -6), who also have 7 points. However, Langsning hold a crucial head-to-head advantage.
Owanijuh’s first goal came from a left-footed strike into the top corner in the first half, followed by a second goal where he outpaced his marker on a counterattack and shot low past Langsning goalkeeper Rajat Paul Lyngdoh.
Aenam Jyrwa’s goal came a few minutes later when he ran from the halfway line and scored from outside the box.
At the other end, Manbhalang Nongmin forced Rangdajied keeper Kerichard L Marshillong to make a sharp diving save towards the end of the first half. Langsning had several set-pieces in the second half but only came close once, with Dajiedlang Wanshnong’s free-kick brilliantly saved by Kerichard.
Later, Rajat Paul denied Owanijuh a hat-trick with a close-range save, flinging his arms up to block the shot, and Ronney Chel Khongrangjem cleared the rebound away before it could cross the goal line.
The next match is scheduled for Monday between Shillong Lajong and Nongthymmai at 2:30 PM.
