Shillong Premier League: Thrilling comebacks as Nongrim Hills edge Langsning 4-3, 10-man Nangkiew Irat beat Nongthymmai 4-2
Nongrim Hills SC and Nangkiew Irat SC staged remarkable comebacks to secure victories against their respective opponents in the OC Blue Shillong Premier League 2024 at the SSA Stadium, First Ground, Polo, on Friday.
In the early kick-off, Nongrim Hills edged Langsning FC 4-3 in a thrilling encounter, while a 10-man Nangkiew Irat stunned Nongthymmai SC 4-2 later in the day.
Alem Khongwir (3′), Mebanshan Suting (65′), and Glennys Lynrah (87′, 89′) scored for Nongrim Hills, with Glennys making an immediate impact as a substitute. Langsning’s goals came from Lamgougin Khongsai (13’), Daohipaia Rymbai (46’), and Enestar Malngiang (83’).
Both teams led twice during the game, but Nongrim Hills clinched the three points in the dying minutes. After failing to score in their previous three matches, Nongrim Hills delivered an attacking masterclass against Langsning, who have now conceded the most goals in the league.
Alem opened the scoring early, beating goalkeeper Rajat Paul Lyngdoh, but Langsning’s Lamgougin equalized after striking the crossbar and converting the rebound. Daohipaia gave Langsning the lead right after the break with a precise finish from a through ball by John Lalrinawma. Mebanshan leveled the score with a well-placed left-footer, setting up a frantic final 10 minutes.
Enestar’s header briefly restored Langsning’s lead, but Glennys flipped the game on its head with two late goals—a header and a clinical finish—to secure a memorable win for Nongrim Hills.
Wallamsuk Nongkhlaw (54’, 80’) and Ronaldkydon L Nonglait (70’, 90’) struck twice each for Nangkiew Irat, while Nongthymmai’s goals came from Ronald Singh Shaikom (44’) and Sorokhaibam Meitei (61’).
Ronald Singh’s volley put Nongthymmai ahead before halftime, but a defensive blunder by Nitish Hazra allowed Wallamsuk to equalize. Sorokhaibam restored Nongthymmai’s lead, but the game shifted dramatically after Restom Khriam received a second yellow card, leaving Nangkiew Irat with 10 men.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Nangkiew Irat stormed back with three goals. Ronaldkydon capitalized on a missed clearance by goalkeeper Akash Thapa to seal the win in the final moments.
The results move Nangkiew Irat to third place with 12 points. Positions 6 through 9 are now tightly contested, with Nongthymmai leading this group on head-to-head results, followed by Nongrim Hills, Langsning, and Laitkor SC.
The next fixtures are on Monday. Laitkor will face bottom side Ryntih FC at 11:30am followed by Nangkiew Irat against Nongrim Hills at 2:30pm.
