Shullai ask MLAs to follow his footsteps to bring development in their constituencies
BJP legislator from South Shillong Sanbor Shullai on Thursday asked fellow legislators to follow his good example if they want to bring development in their respective constituencies.
He was hitting out at those who questioned him regarding the implementation of the Special Urban Work Programme (SUWP) or MLA scheme.
“Please follow my good example if you want developmental schemes. Come with me if you want development for your constituency. If you get gold also, you should make roads with gold – that kind of spirit an MLA should have for his constituency,” Shullai said after chairing a review meeting with officers of different departments on the implementation of various projects in South Shillong constituency.
Announcing that over Rs 107 crore schemes are being implemented in South Shillong constituency, the BJP MLA said, “I am MLA for 20 years now and this amount of Rs 107 crore schemes are being sanctioned during the last 3 years from 2021-2024.”
He informed that in the last three years 2021-2022, 2022-2023 and 2023-2024, projects worth over Rs 107 crore that he got from the state government and Central government.
“Even if your a lazy MLA, the scheme will come to you and the letter will reach your bed also asking you to propose projects under the MLA scheme (SUWP/SRWP) which is Rs 258 lakh annually but not only Rs 253 lakh as has been stated by one MLA” Shullai said.
He therefore urged those MLAs who criticized him to help the people in the constituency through the DG given to all 60 MLAs of Rs 10 lakh each and also work hard to bring projects to the constituency.
“They should follow my example and if they need help they can also seek from me by going to Delhi together to seek developmental projects from the Central government as there is also an agency that will prepare project proposals and DPRs free of cost,” Shullai said while indirectly hitting out at those MLAs who tried to mislead the people in their constituency they cannot help the people.
“I am grateful to the people of South Shillong, who have voted for me out of love. I never contested elections by using money. In fact people themselves spend money for me from their own pocket and that is why it is my duty to work very hard to get developmental schemes for my constituency and my people,” he said.
