Shullai salutes health workers fighting against COVID-19
BJP legislator from South Shillong, Sanbor Shullai said that his recent statement related to the health department was “highly exaggerated” and in fact he salutes all health workers across the state for their contribution in fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Shullai had on Saturday slammed the health department led by his party colleague Alexander Laloo Hek for its failure to deal with the COVID-19 situation particularly in the areas declared as containment.
Clarifying on his statement, the South Shillong legislator on Monday said that his statement was highly exaggerated and that he was only trying to address the real problems faced by the public, Dorbar Shnong and their COVID-19 Management Committee in containment zone as he has received complaint faced by the various Dorbar Shnong Including Maxwellton Estate oxford Hills and resident of Mawbah (Barapather) that several high risk contacts have been kept at home for several days in spite of having accommodation problem at home and also the problem faced by the resident due to non supply of essential commodities.
Shullai suggested that the concerned minister should consider suggestions of his party colleague and others in the coalition government.
Earlier, the Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War had termed the statement of the legislator as criticizing all the health workers and other frontline workers against COVID-19.
In response to Dr War’s statement, Shullai said that he was misquoted and that he salutes the health workers all across the state for their contribution in fighting this pandemic.
He also suggested that problems at grass root level need to be addressed to ease and streamline the work for health workers.
The MLA said provision of additional financial assistance should also be made available at local levels through MLA fund to assist local Covid-19 Management committee to set up community based quarantine and isolation center as per guidelines which in long run will ease the burden of frontline workers.
He also applauded the efforts of all frontline workers and also the Chief Minister and Deputy CM whose initiative to resolve at local level has helped the state to contain the COVID-19.
“We should try to ease the burden of frontline workers by coming up with an effective management system to resolve the problem at local COVID-19 Management committee level. Sanitization teams should be formed for quick action as well as a proper coordination with health teams for testing at ground levels should be done,” Shullai further suggested.
The MLA informed that he would also soon submit a memorandum to the CM with regard to the problems faced by the local Dorbar Shnong and their Covid-19 Management Committee.
