Shullai takes over as new Meghalaya cabinet minister
Three-time BJP legislator from South Shillong Sanbor Shullai on Friday took over as new cabinet minister of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government even as he assured to address the issue related to the financial aid for the marginalized workers.
Shullai was given the Labour department and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary department, which were earlier held by the Deputy Chief Minister besides Arts & Culture, Home (Passport) and Prisons.
Speaking to media persons on taking charge of office, Shullai expressed thankfulness to the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for his decision.
“I am very satisfied. Anything (will do) as once you work it is for the public and nothing else, you work for the benefit of the people of the state not for anything else,” he said.
When asked, Shullai said, “I will call the officers to review all the departments from Monday.”
Stating that the labour department is very important, the minister said that the department mostly concerns the interest of the poor people and labourers.
“(Therefore), this will be the first issue which I am going to take up on Monday with the concerned officers,” he said while adding there will be no compromise when it comes to ensuring justice to the beneficiaries.
On the recent protest staged by the TUR leader Angela Rangad against the non-releasing of the financial assistance to marginalized workers, Shullaisaid that he saw in media reports that she had alone protested in front of the secretariat.
“Since I am not much acquainted with this as I have only seen in the newspaper about her demands and I don’t know what designation she is holding for the labourers, whether she is the president of the labourers, that I am not aware of. But like I said earlier, I will call the officers and I will see that if it is genuine that we have to give or disburse this money to all the genuine labourers as enshrined by the rules, each one of them will be getting,” he said.
He further assured that justice will be done and whatever money they are supposed to get, it will go directly to their bank accounts.
