Shylla doubts AITC will be accepted in Jaintia Hills
United Democratic Party leader and cabinet minister Kyrmen Shylla on Friday expressed doubt that the people of Jaintia Hills region would accept the newly formed All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) in the state.
“I don’t know about other parts of the state but in Jaintia Hills people (prefer) a party which has a base (in the state) as well as the number of seats,” Shylla told journalists here.
Sitting legislator of Sutnga-Saipung, Shitlang Pale is one among the 12 Congress MLAs, who have defected and joined the AITC recently.
Shylla however said although the AITC as a new party may have a huge number of seats, the outcome regarding its acceptability will be known in 2023.
On the other hand, he said it would be very difficult for the Congress in the next election. Pale’s decision reflects that he has no confidence in the Congress and with his resignation, the party now has zero representatives in Jaintia Hills, Shylla added.
The UDP leader however said that his party is not taking the political development lightly and is preparing for the upcoming elections to ensure enough seats are won in order to form the next government.
