Single used plastics products banned in East Jaintia Hills
The Deputy Commissioner East Jaintia Hills District has banned the use of single used plastics products with immediate effect in the entire District.
The order has been issued in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 (Act 29 of 1986) and in compliance to the Plastic Waste Management (Amendment) Rules, 2021, the State Government vide Notification No. ENV.2/2021/270 Dated 23rd June, 2022.
The manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale and use of carry bag made of virgin or recycled plastic shall not be less than seventy five (75) microns in thickness and shall not be less than one hundred and twenty (120) microns in thickness are banned with effect from the 31st December, 2022.
The manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale and use of following Single Use Plastic including polystyrene and expanded polystyrene, commodities shall be prohibited.
Products such as ear buds with plastic sticks for balloons, plastic flags, candy sticks, ice cream sticks, polysterene (Thermocol) for decoration are prohibited.
Plates, cups, glasses, cutlery such as forks, spoons, knives, straw, trays, wrapping or packing films around sweet boxes, invitation cards, and cigarette packets, plastic or PVC banners less than 100 micron, stirrers.
