Six filed papers for the election of Nartiang Dolloi
JOWAI: A total of six candidates filed their nomination for the election of Dolloi of Elaka Nartiang to be conducted by the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) on 26th July, 2019.
The election is held to fill up the post of Dolloi which has been lying vacant since the demise of previous Dolloi Don Dkhar on 12th October, 2016 and as a stop gap arrangement, the JHADC handed over the mantle of acting Dolloiship to R Symblai on December 2016, however he also passed away on 2nd October, 2018.
The six candidates who filed their nomination paper before JHADC Deputy Secretary and Returning Officer E Shylla are Salong Lamare, Wednesday Dkhar, Donkhian Dkhar, Headsing Dhar, Jonting Dhar and Lew Dhar. The nomination papers will be scrutinized on Thursday.
According to the notification issued by the JHADC dated 14th June, 2019, the election will be held on 26th July, this year while the counting will be held on 29th July, this year in JHADC’s office.
In this election, only Niamtre male person who are 25 years or above and belonging to either Dhar or Lamare or Dkhar can contest and he also has to deposit security deposit of Rs. 5000 which is non refundable.
The Nartiang Elaka is famous for the Durga Temple and the Monoliths, which have attracted tourists both national and international.
