SKJCLF to form new body for promoting peace in the state
The Shillong Khasi Jaintia Church Leaders Forum (SKJCLF) has unanimously decided to form a new body for promoting peace and harmony in the state as it appeal to all citizens to strictly adhere to government protocols to stop the spread of COVID-19.
The decision was taken at a meeting convened by SKJCLF president Most Revd Dr P Lyngdoh and attended by representatives of different faith communities on July 9.
“This meet has unanimously agreed that a new body be formed comprising of leaders of different faiths for the purpose of promoting peace and harmony in the state and that this new Body would take an active role in engaging with the authorities, to work together on issues that concern the public and citizens of the state,” Lyngdoh said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
With regards to the current issue of racial discriminations, abuses and communal exclusions prevalent in our society, our country and the world, the religious Leaders condemn such attitudes and incidents, and appeal to the public at large to avoid entertaining such attitudes and actions against one another, he said.
On the opening of places of worship, Lyngdoh said that after considering the recent surge of COVID-19 positive cases in the state, and the inability of many groups to meet the requirement of the protocols laid down by the government, it was agreed that the matter be kept in abeyance till the end of July and re-discuss it after that.
He said the meeting prayed for safe-keeping of our communities, peace and brotherhood to prevail in Meghalaya and our nation, as well as for the victims of the corona virus in different parts of the world.
The meeting also sends a special appeal to all citizens to follow and strictly adhere to the protocols of the government as well as to be personally responsible in good practices of health, hygiene and respect of one another.
Meanwhile, the SKJCLF also put on record its sincere appreciation and gratitude to the state government, the frontline workers, traditional heads and leaders in both rural and urban areas, groups and individuals and countless number of volunteers engaged in various ways to combat this pandemic.
